Lawrence Wing Yau “Larry” Eng of The Colony, Texas went to be with his Heavenly Father on November 5, 2020. Born on December 13, 1931 to Phillip and Elizabeth Eng in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, he was the middle child of 3 boys. The family left Okmulgee to follow their dream of opening the first Chinese restaurant in Tulsa, creating a new chapter for the Eng family. Larry graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1949. He went to Oklahoma University and later graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. After graduation, he began active duty in the U.S. Army.
He moved to Texas in 1960, where he worked at places like LTV, Morton Foods, Coca Cola, Frito Lay, Presbyterian Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital. Larry worked exceptionally hard to support his family financially, and was just as devoted to nurturing his children’s development. He supported his children in activities like band, orchestra, soccer, Boy Scouts, and Camp Fire Girls. He was such a supporter that he chaperoned or joined several groups.
He enjoyed gardening (especially growing bitter melon), square and round dancing with Dixie Chainers Club, coin collecting, and stamp collecting. Larry was also an avid OU fan and many would describe him as quite the “jokester”. We will miss his smiling face and pranks!
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 31 years, Angelita Aguillon Eng from Butuan City Philippines, four children from his first marriage: Lawrence Phillip of Farmers Branch; Katherine Gillentine and husband, Freddy of Abilene, Texas; Curtis and wife, Yume of Carlsbad California; and Linda Eng of Plano, and her partner, Ram Silverman, also of Plano. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Tiffany, Timothy and Jeremy.
