In Loving Memory

On Wednesday October 7th 2020, Pastor Lewis “Lew” Ray Acrey, heard the voice of the Lord call and he went home to be with him at the age of 85. The Celebration of his life will be on Thursday, October 15th 2020 at 11:00am, Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 South I-35E, Carrollton TX. Burial: Restland Memorial Cemetery at 1pm. Visitation will start at 10:00am.

Lewis was born on January 11th, 1935 in San Antonio TX to John and Clella Acrey. Lewis graduated from Carrollton High School in 1954, served in the United States Army, and served the Lord as an ordained Baptist Minister starting in 1960 at Miller Road Baptist Church, Garland TX. Lewis is better known locally as the former pastor at Bellaire Baptist Church in Carrollton, and most recently at Beginnings Fellowship Church in Gainesville until his retirement in 2015.

For those that knew him, the game of golf was another passion which he played well into his years (and still beat his sons). He was also highly sought after around the metroplex for his craftsmanship when it came to painting and especially his expertly hung wallpaper projects. But greater than his passion for golf and painting, was his passion for reaching those who did not know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Left in the caring hands of God are his five children, Phyllis, Leslie, Stephen, David, and Taryn, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Lewis experienced immense love, joy and laughter with his family and considered himself a blessed man in this regard.

I was saddened to hear of Pastor Lew's passing. I will always remember him for sharing his gift of encouragement, and somehow it always came when it was needed most. His loss will surely be felt.

I was so sorry to learn of Lewis passing away. I graduated from Carrollton High School with Lewis. I was from Coppell and he was from Field City, but we attended all four years of high school together. He was a precious friend, loved by all his classmates. We were all so sad that we did not find out about his death until after his funeral Had we known, there would have been a large group of his high school friends in attendance. We will miss seeing him at our gatherings. Because of his faith in Jesus Christ we have the assurance that we will see him again.

There is not enough room in this little box to share what your father/grandfather/great grandfather meant to me and my wife Jackie. He was my encourager, counselor and my friend. We had the pleasure of enjoying an Elvis (Kyle Parker) concert together at the Carrollton theatre and breaking bread together many times. Most of all I am blessed to have gleaned some of his wisdom about more things than I can share. Our talks will be with me to the grave and I am looking forward to seeing Brother Lew again when we both are sitting at the feet of our precious savior. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Lou entered my life about a year and a half ago. Such a dear and caring gent. Although we didn't know each other very long, I will never forget his wisdom and powerful positivity. Rest pain free and rejoice in the arms of our Lord. You will be missed by many.

Your father was one of the nicest people I know. Growing up your Dad was like a second Dad plus my Pastor. Words can't express how you and your family are feeling at this time. Our heart are very heavy and sad. Just knowing that your Dad is in heaven rejoicing with all the loved one that have gone before him. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Love you!
