I've known the Cunningham family since Julia and I were in the 1st grade. From about 6 grade on we were inseparable. Whether he liked it or not, Mike was stuck with me, and often. He began to refer to me in public as his illegitimate daughter. And I was happy to call him a second father. He loved me and treated me like of of his own for years. At about 15 years old he began referring to me as "Dingleberry,' and it stuck. Someof his family doesn't even know my real name. ;) I never outgrew the name, and for some time I wondered if it REALLY was a term of endearment, or he actually wanted to get rid of me. But I know better.

Mike loved all of his children with an amazing passion. Everything he ever did was to give them the life they deserved and see them smile. His crazy jokes, belly laugh, and contagious smile were something I'll never forget. I'll also never forget how he let Julia drag me along to all their family events, how he taught me how to bait a hook, or how he forced me to scale and gut my own fish. I will definitely never forget how that catfish cried when he made me cut it while it was still alive. I love that cruel man.

To his actual children, in these coming weeks and following year, it'll be so difficult, more than most people can imagine, but you are never alone, he'll be there. He'll be in your dreams and he'll be holding your hands. Give a good squeeze. He knows how much you love him.

Mike was a great guy with a big heart. He will be missed. Prayers going out to his family and friends.
