25 July, 1951 – 5 January, 2022
IN THE CARE OF

Rhoton Funeral Home

Rickie “Rick” Little age 70 passed away on January 5, 2022. He was born on July 25, 1951 to Walter and Bobbie Watkins Little in Waco, Texas. He graduated from Garland High School in 1970 and spent two years in the Army during Vietnam and an additional two years stateside at Fort Carson in Colorado, where he received a communications specialist degree.

He used his communications knowledge from his military training and followed in his father’s footsteps into the telecommunications industry where he worked 26 years, retiring from Verizon in 2004. While working at GTE, Rick’s company sent a crew to Honolulu, Hawaii to help Hawaiian Tel with a large-scale project to upgrade the telecom wireline infrastructure on Oahu. He loved the experience, especially the company housing in a condo overlooking Waikiki beach. He also completed projects to build out phone service for many areas of new housing and commercial development in the Carrollton, Lewisville and Garland areas.

Rick was married in 1979 to Sabrina LaFever Little and was blessed with a daughter Sasha Michelle Little. On March 25, 1995 he married Nancy Kelly Little in Carrollton Texas.

A proud “Girl Dad” to Sasha and Papa to three grandsons, he enjoyed traveling with his family to Hawaii, Alaska, Cancun, Colorado and the Midwest and participating in family outings and sporting events. He was an avid Cowboys fan which started early in life when his father worked on the Cotton Bowl telecom staff and Rick was able to watch the Cowboy games up in the press box.

During his life, Rick battled brain cancer multiple times, which presented many challenges yet he was able to overcome and live a full life. He became a member of Grey Matters North Texas Brain Tumor Support group where he met many wonderful “extended family” along the way and helped with various fundraising events. He also enjoyed his role as “official taste tester” for the annual chili cookoffs.

Survivors include his wife Nancy, daughter Sasha, son-in-law Chris Raney and three grandsons Logan Pierce, Everett Cole, Asher Boyd; former wife Sabrina Middleton, plus two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of a funeral service, a celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date. Internment at Dallas National Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grey Matters North Texas Brain Tumor Support or Wounded Warriors Project
