Velva Deanne (May) Cooper “Dede” went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2019 in Frisco, TX. She was 90 years old. Dede was born in Vernon, TX on April 9, 1929 to Elbert and Novie Juanita May. Dede graduated from Vernon High School in 1946 and attended North Texas University. She married Robert (Bob) Hill Cooper IV on October 11, 1949. Bob and Dede enjoyed 59 ½ years of marriage. After their wedding Bob and Dede lived in Vernon, TX where Dede worked as a legal secretary. Later, they moved to Lubbock where she worked at Texas Tech University. Dede worked for Georgia Pacific in Dallas, Atlanta GA and back in Dallas for over 30 years, until her retirement. She and Bob built their house in Carrollton where they lived for 37 years until Bob’s death on April 30, 2009. Dede lived there another 10 years until April 2019. Dede most recently lived at Parsons House in Frisco, TX to be near her family. She loved her time at Parsons House.
Dede was a devoted member of the First United Methodist church of Carrollton for almost 50 years and volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House.
Dede is survived by her daughter Candee Cooper Walters (Alan Walters) and son Robert Hill Cooper V (Belinda Cooper), three grandchildren, Dana Mattay, Karen Clancy Grimm (Jason) and Robby Brown; and great grandchildren, Mason & Megan Mattay; and McKinley & Madden Brown.
Visitation for Dede will be October 8th from 6-8:00pm at Rhoton Funeral Home, Carrollton, TX. Services will be at October 9th at FUMC Carrollton at 11:00am, followed by Graveside rights at 2:30 at DFW National Cemetery in Arlington, TX.
