She semi-retired to home school Melissa (her youngest child) while working as a house environment manager in various homes around Lake Tahoe. During this time, Sandy also served the community by: serving as a Girl Scouts of America troop leader and a Court Appointed Special Advocate, envisioning and creating Parents Encouraging Parents, successfully lobbying to get Nevada’s Charter School Bill enacted, working with Advocates to End Domestic Violence and writing grants for the Rural Center for Independent Living. She also lent her hand to the Northern Nevada Home School Association, the Brewery Arts Center, the Children’s Museum and various youth sports programs in the area.
It can be said that some of Sandy’s work for the disabled population in the local area is legendary. Sandy’s passion for, and contributions to many various causes helped or inspired many others in our community. Of her charities, The Nature Conservancy stands out among her favorites. Sandy was a beautiful, loving, and talented woman. I was fortunate to have shared so much of my life with such a wonderful person. She had the most beautiful soul. She was truly a woman of great courage and conviction who helped many less fortunate people find justice, relevance and acceptance in this often cruel and forbidding world. She taught many of us the value of compassion and the power of perseverance. May her memory live on with all who were fortunate enough to have known her and to have experienced her kind and helpful nature. I will dearly miss her friendship, her wisdom and her passion for life.
Dennis Coyle, husband, friend and admirer.
