Dane was born on July 9, 1958, in Cartersville, Georgia, to the late Mr. Carl C. and Mrs. Virginia F. Vaughan.
Dane was a lifelong resident of Cartersville, and graduated from Cartersville High School in 1976. He went on to attend the University of Georgia, where he studied several subjects, including history, literature, and political science. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville. He loved his church and loved serving in various capacities, including the weekly Friendship Table, singing in the choir, and on various committees. He enjoyed cooking, reading, and sharing his avid knowledge of history. He had a lifelong fascination with guns and their historical significance, and loved studying and discussing their significance in history.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his twin brother, Carl Ross Vaughan.
He is survived by his first cousins, Don (Gail) Fortenberry and Dede F. (Hank) Hatfield of Cartersville; Mike (Lynn) Vaughan of Thomaston, GA; Neil Vaughan of Bonaire, GA; Dale V. (Steve) Hansen of Lancaster County, PA; and John Vaughan of New Bedford, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his lifelong friend, Roy (Teresa) Bell of Cartersville.
A Celebration of Life Service to honor and remember Dane will be conducted on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at eleven o'clock in the morning at the First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville with the Rev. Dr. Mike Anderson officiating. Dane will be laid to rest following the service in Oak Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers for the service are Dennis Collier, Hank Hatfield, Don Fortenberry, Alex Fortenberry, Zack Hardy, and Andrew Wilson. Mr. Roy Bell will serve as an honorary pallbearer for the service as well.
Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 o'clock in the morning at the church and will go through the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville in Dane's memory.
