George Young Mosteller

Mr. Mosteller was born September 11, 1926 in Cartersville, son of the late Joe Alfred Mosteller and Lorine Randolph Mosteller.

Mr. Mosteller earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech and later attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a Veteran of The United States Army and served in WWII. He married Edna Hazel Cowart in 1968. He retired from GA Power after 30 years of faithful service. He was also a member of the International Explosive Engineers. His wife Hazel and he served together as house parents at GA Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries. Mr. Mosteller enjoyed sports, especially the Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He loved singing, teaching, children, family and serving his Lord. He was of the Baptist faith and was an active member of Brandon’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Mr. Mosteller is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Mosteller Parham; brother, David “Butch” Mosteller; and son, Mark Mosteller.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Hazel Cowart Mosteller; sister and brother-in-law, Doctors Claire and Ed Wheeler of Barnesville, GA; sons and daughters-in-laws, Ken and Georgianne Lipscomb of Raleigh, North Carolina and David and Aileen Mosteller of Shreveport, Louisiana; son, Mike Mosteller of Mississippi; grandchildren, Barry Mosteller, Shannon Mosteller Emory, Katie and Brian Lipscomb and Daniel Mosteller; great grandchildren, Gavin, Peyton and Charlie Mosteller, Katelee Russell and Kodi and Bryana Emory; a host of nieces and nephews and children of his heart, including Becky Parish(his unofficial adopted daughter).

The family would like to send special thanks for the love and care provided by Amedisys Hospice Care of Cartersville and Dr. Roger Hiser.

Funeral Services will be held 12:00 PM, Monday, August 26, 2013 from the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Shepard, Chaplain Mitzi Oates and Becky Parish Officiating. Interment will be held after the service at 2:00 PM from the GA National Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Barry Mosteller, Timmy Head, Buster Head, Cody Head, Brandon Head, and Ben Head.

Honorary pallbearers are Joe Shiver, Larry Harris, Paul Turner, David Roberts, Terry Cantrell and Terry Henson.

The family will receive friends 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, August 25, 2013 from Owen Funeral Home.
