Jo Ellen Holmes

Jo Ellen Holmes, born November 14, 1944, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was centered on faith, family, and service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Evelyn Jenkins; her beloved husband, Charles E. Holmes; her son, Charles R. Holmes; and her sister, Eva Lou Barker.

Jo Ellen is survived by her sons, Bobby (Yvonne) Holmes and Tony Holmes. She leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Morgan (Brian) Duffy, Meredith (Kevin) Steinmeyer, Matthew Holmes, Mason (Elizabeth) Holmes, Makenzie Holmes, and Josh Holmes (Kenia Jacobo). She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Ari Holmes, Tate Duffy, and Wayne Collins Holmes.

She is further survived by her siblings Helen Carnes, Wayne (Cathy) Jenkins, and Annelle (Earl) Smith, along with a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

Jo Ellen retired from Cartersville City Schools, where she faithfully served and touched the lives of many students and coworkers throughout her career. She was a longtime and devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where her faith guided her life and actions.

Jo Ellen will be remembered for her loving heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
