Larry grew up in the Pittsburgh area, and enjoyed spending time at his parents’ Pennsylvania mountain cabin. Larry was an avid fishing enthusiast, both in his adolescence and into adulthood. He moved to Miami, Florida after graduating high school in 1972. This is where he met the love of his life – his wife Maureen “Mo”, who he married on October 6, 1973.
Larry spent 20 years working at United Parcel Service in South Florida, first as a driver and then as a manager. Larry then began a career with L&W Supply and quickly rose through the ranks of management, giving his family the opportunity to live in Ocala, Florida, Saint Cloud, Florida and finally Punta Gorda, Florida. In all of these cities, Larry (with Mo by his side) touched the lives of many. They provided a stable and loving environment for their many friends and their children’s many friends who were fortunate enough to meet them along the way. Larry’s generosity, humor and wisdom were unparalleled and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Larry is preceded in death by his wife Maureen (Garrison) McDowell and his parents James McDowell and Regina (Slean) McDowell. He is survived by his son: Lawrence “Larry” McDowell Jr. (Monica): three daughters: Kimberly McDowell; Melissa Ludington (Joel); Christina McDowell: and six grandchildren: Rylee Perry; Jackson Ludington; Aliyah McDowell; Connor Ludington; Nathan McDowell; Emrey Ludington.
A memorial service will be held on August 31, 2024 at Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive Cartersville, GA, 30120. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm and service to follow at 1:00 pm.
