Malvin "Mal" Boyd Underwood

Malvin (Mal) Boyd Underwood of Cartersville passed away at his home on October 19, 2023. Mal was born in Denham Springs, LA, on November 17, 1949. He graduated from Denham Springs High School in 1967 and was well-known for his athletic ability and competitive spirit. Mal graduated from Louisiana State University with his bachelor's degree in accounting and later earned his CPA.

Mal is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Page Underwood and Eunice Miller Underwood of Denham Springs, LA.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Allen Cook, brothers Michael Underwood (Barbara) of Hiawassee, GA., Ralph Underwood (Margie) of Baton Rouge, LA., and sister Debbie Underwood (Glen), also of Baton Rouge, LA. Mal has three children who he adored unconditionally. They are Rebecca Underwood Lambert of River Ridge, LA., Matthew Underwood (Tara)of Potomac, MD., two grandsons, Liam Underwood, 7, and Lucas Underwood, 9, and daughter Amanda Underwood of Baton Rouge, LA.

In his early years, Mal was a Chief Financial Officer for Baton Rouge Sun Health Hospital. He served hospital financial operations in Georgia, North Carolina, and Louisiana and owned Underwood and Associates Consulting Firm for ten years in Cartersville, GA.

Mal was a man of enormous faith. He served as treasurer for the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Cartersville for over 20 years. He served faithfully as a Consultant for the Diocese of Atlanta for the Episcopal Church in Middle and North Georgia. His stewardship sermons were spiritually motivating.

Mal was blessed with a magnetic, warm personality and a smile that included everyone as a friend. He and his wife Annette never knew a day that they were not thankful for the time on earth they had together. Our universe is diminished by the loss of a genuinely good, decent, faithful, loving husband, father, friend, and mentor to others.

A funeral will be held on October 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension at 205 West Cherokee Ave., Cartersville, GA. 30120
