

Mary Lou Chastain Brown, age 92, died on August 25, 2016, at Cartersville Medical Center, Cartersville, Georgia. A lifelong resident of Cartersville, she was born on November 29, 1923, the second of seven children of Homer L. and Lula P. Bell Chastain.
Mary Lou was a loyal member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, and served the church through the Sunday School and as a longtime member of the Minnie Spence Circle. She worked at E-Z Mills for many years, and retired from Union Carbide. Her life revolved around faith, family, and friends. She had a strong commitment to doing her best, whether at her job or as a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, reading and quilting, and loved to travel.
Mary Lou was predeceased by her beloved husband Herman D. “Dee” Brown and only child, Kenneth Larson Brown, sisters Evelyn Dabbs and Mamie Mitchell, brothers J. W. and Thomas Chastain, nephews Tim, Ted, and Paul Chastain, and special brothers-in-law Stanley Dabbs and Johnny Mitchell.
Survivors are sister Minnie Chastain and brother Bobby H. Chastain and his wife Gina, sister-in-law Shelba Chastain, all of Cartersville, grandson Robert Thomas Brown and daughter-in-law Susan Brown, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, nieces Johnette Black, Jackie Lanier, Carolyn Mitchell Wynens, Yvonne Holmes, Karla Wooton, and Tracy Chastain, and nephew Tony Chastain. Among her Brown family survivors are sister-in-law Bobbie Brown Sanders, of Santa Barbara, California, special niece Annelle Brown Mathis, of Cartersville, additional nieces and great nephew Phil Quarles.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 28, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Don Hattaway and Keith Guyton officiating. Pallbearers are: Wendell Black, Mason Holmes, Jim Little, Larry Milam, Phil Quarles, and Jerry Wynens. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens in Cartersville.
