Mrs. Muriel Black Hollingshed, 86, of the Burnt Hickory Community, passed away on October 25, 2020 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. She was born at Pine Log on June 13, 1934 to Criss and Camilla McEntire Black, and grew up on the family farm in Cassville. Muriel married Alvin Hollingshed on February 13, 1960, moving to his family farm and enjoying a loving partnership that endured for almost sixty years, ending in his death last year.
She worked at Lay’s Dime Store after graduation from Cass High in 1951, and later worked for twenty-two years at EZ Mills/Spring City in Cartersville. After retirement, she and Alvin raised produce on the family farm, selling it at local groceries and at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Cartersville. Muriel loved her family deeply, was proud to be known as a hard worker, and as someone who had a fun personality and a great sense of humor.
She was a woman of faith, first as a member of Friendship Baptist Church, and then after marriage, became a member of Burnt Hickory United Methodist Church.
Besides her parents and her husband, Alvin, Muriel was preceded in death by sisters Johnnie Cline and Bobbie Hollingshed, and brothers Charles Black and Kay Black. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Lee Hollingshed; sister Grace Epps (Marvin); brothers Wayne (Barbara) and Kent (Linda) Black; and many special nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Muriel Black Hollingshed will be from 11:30-12:30 pm. on Friday, October 30th , 2020. According to her wishes, there will be a graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery. The service will begin at 1 pm. at Oak Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Rackley and Rev. Mrs. Lee Hollingshed officiating. Pallbearers will be Alan Black, Kevin Black, Roger Black, Jerry Prewitt, Cubby Powell, and Jacob Sullins. Social distancing will be observed and face mask recommend.
