

June 7, 2014. Roy was born August 10, 1936 to Gordon Lee Stoner and Lola Lee Bailey Stoner in Chamblee, Georgia. He was the second of their 7 children born of their marriage. Roy graduated from O’Keefe High School in Atlanta, Georgia in 1957. After graduating from O’Keefe he entered school at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) with study concentration in mechanical engineering. While attending Georgia Tech he was enrolled in the United States Army Reserve Officer Training Corps until his draft number was issued and he enlisted in the United States Army (Regular) for duty to his country. Roy served honorably in Reverend Roy Garner Stoner, left this world for his heavenly home on the engineer field from 1958 until his discharge in 1967. He was stationed in Greenland, Germany, and Fort Hood, TX. During his time in the Army at Fort Hood he met his lifelong best friend from Chicago Heights, IL, Mr. Allen Palcek.
On March 19, 1964 Roy met what he described to his father as the “one”, Mary Yvonne Stewart. Roy and Mary quickly became engaged and were married on December 24, 1964 and settled in to their lifelong home in Adairsville. Unto their joyous union two daughters were born, the late Mary Frances Stoner, January 10, 1967 and Mrs. Sallie V. Stoner(-Twyford), October 8, 1977.
Roy worked as a minister to many people in need over his life. He was the founder of Empty Food Pantries Ministries where he ministered and fed those in need on a daily basis for over 20 years. He was one of the founding members of Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter of Bartow County. He served on numerous boards with various organizations that helped the needy over 20 plus years in Northwest Georgia. He was an ordained minister through the Church of God of Cleveland, TN for 20 years.
Roy was a loving husband of 49 plus years to Mary Stewart Stoner of the home. He was a loving husband, father, PawPaw, brother, son, and friend to all he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Lee Stoner and Lola Lee Bailey Stoner and daughter Mary Frances Stoner. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Gordon B. Stoner and Jackie O. Stoner.
He is survived by his wife of 49 plus years, Mary Stoner of the home. Daughter, Sallie Stoner-Twyford and son (in-law) GySgt Larry W. Twyford, Sr. and grandsons Larry W. Twyford, Jr. (LJ) and Garner Bailey Twyford of Jacksonville, NC. Brothers: Bobby Stoner of Marietta, Larry (Pete) Stoner of Marietta, Nellie Stoner Mayo and husband Ted of Hernando, MS, Karen Stoner Warren of Acworth and fiancé Jimmy Adams. Brothers-in-law: Joseph Stewart, Robert (Bob) Stewart of Adairsville, Vince Stewart of Cartersville, and Marlon Haney of Cartersville. Special nieces: Kara Warren Lurie and husband Brad and sons, Tyler and Dylan of Cumming. Samantha Smith and children Avery and Shelby of Hernando, MS. April Stoner Brenner and husband Mark of Marietta. Leigh Stewart Miles and husband, Billy and daughters Savannah Grace and Libby of Atlanta. Kristen Stewart Lewis and husband Jason and daughter Morgan of Atlanta. Nephews: Joseph Stewart, Jr. (JJ) and wife Sarah , and sons Matthew and David. David Stewart of Marietta. Graham Stewart and wife Lindsey Stewart of Marietta. Adopted family: Howard, Angie, Justin, Jason, and Meagan Fox of Adairsville.
Very special friends: Allen Palcek and Kathy LaPine of Chicago Heights, IL. Todd, Paula, Courtney, and Kyle Victor of New Lennox, IL. Stephen Palcek of New Lennox, IL. Paul and Betty Thomas of Cartersville. As well as several special coworkers throughout the years.
Special thanks to the faithful and dedicated volunteers of Empty Food Pantry Ministries over the years and especially in the last few months.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and all other medical staff and caregivers for their excellent care of Roy during his final months of life.
Visitation will be held at Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Dr., Cartersville, GA, Friday, June 13th from 5 until 8 PM.
Funeral services will held at Owen Funeral Home at 2 PM on Saturday, June 14th with Rev. Marlon Haney officiaiting and an opportunity for those that wish to speak in regards to Roy’s life.
Internment with full military honors will follow on the Stoner Farm in the family cemetery. The family has asked for those attending the memorial service and internment to dress casual.
