Mrs. Shirley Dabbs Hight, age 79 of Cartersville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Mrs. Hight was born in Bartow County on January 20, 1939, and she was the daughter of the late Neal and Vivian Worley Dabbs. On April 13, 1996, Shirley was married to the love of her life, Troy Hight, who always referred to her as his “Angel.” They enjoyed 21 wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing in March of 2017, and she missed him more with each passing day.
Mrs. Hight was an active member of her beloved Pine Grove Baptist Church where she founded the Pine Grove Pioneers in 2003 and served as their president for 11 years. She was president of The Ladies Circle at Pine Grove for four years and faithfully attended the Willing Workers Sunday School class. Following retirement from City Motors of Cartersville, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Cartersville Medical Center for 11 years and served as president for four. Mrs. Hight also enjoyed attending gatherings of the Red Hat Society with her sister, Janice, and Bartow Senior events.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Hight was preceded in death by her son, Darrell Williams. Survivors include her daughters, Joanne Crane and Donna Posey,step-children, Becky Smith, Danny Hight and Milton (Petey) Hight; grandchildren, Chuck Maulden, Deanna Posey, Ethan Posey; great-grandchildren, Myles Hidges and Riley Maulden; brother and sister-in-aw, Robert and Janice Dabbs; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Jerry Hill. Mrs. Hight is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special family friend, Harley Hardin.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 PM on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 3 PM on Sunday, December 9, 2018 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Clinton Green and Rev. Andrew Hight officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Brian Dabbs, Brian Bearden, Jerry Hill, Jr., Mark Hill, Hal Maulden, Adam Hight, and Jamison (Harley) Hardin. Alternate pallbearers are Thacker Lively and Tim Storey. Honorary pallbearers include Glenn Worley, David Posey, Jerry Knight, Don Cowart, Ed Greer, Steven Lively, and Sam Hembree. Members of the Ladies Auxiliary of CMC, “The Pink Ladies”, will also serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Terri Boyd, the nurses, CNAs and staff of Maple Ridge Health Care Center along with Brooke Luzzi from UHC for the loving care shown to Mrs. Hight over the last few months. Your kindness was greatly appreciated.
