Shirley Yvonne Mykytyn

Shirley Yvonne Newhouse Mykytyn, age 88, of Temple, Georgia, died on the afternoon of April 18th, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones. Shirley was born in White, Georgia as the eldest of three children to Roscoe Raymond Newhouse Sr. and Leola Agnes Branton Newhouse. She met the love of her life, Joseph Mykytyn, while attending Temple University in Philadelphia. They moved to Atlanta and were wed in 1951. Both Joseph and Shirley graduated from Southern College of Pharmacy (now Mercer University).

After graduation, Shirley began her professional career as a pharmacist while raising their five children. She taught Christian values within her family. She led a vibrant girl scout troop in Mableton, focusing on giving within the community. She enjoyed cooking, arts and crafts, arranging flowers, and geneology. She shared her talents with her mother, children, and grandchildren. She and Joe enjoyed traveling across the world. She retired from Cobb General Hospital in 1993 to spend time with family on their farm in Temple, Georgia.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Charlotte Newhouse Tutterow, and one grandchild. She is survived by her brother Roscoe Newhouse Jr.; her five children, Joseph Mykytyn, Jr. of Marietta, James (Elise) Mykytyn of Temple, John Mykytyn of Marietta, Jayne (Eugene) Rohling of Atlanta, and Janet Mykytyn of Temple; grandchildren, Marie, Joseph III, Yvonne, James, Gabrielle, Cathy, Kimberly, Christopher, Charlotte, Charles, Christian, and Cherlee; great grandchildren Alexis, Madelyne, Elijah, Angelene, Leo, Steven, Briana, Gavin, Nathaniel, Jonathan, Juliana, William, and Margaret; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Owens Funeral Home and Crematory in Cartersville, Georgia. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 beginning at 11:00 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Crossroads Baptist Cemetary in White Georgia.
