

Mr. Wilson was born on May 16, 1948 in Marietta, GA, son of the late Verlin Wilson and his mother Edna Jones Wilson.
Mr. Wilson proudly served his country in the Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and Combat "V" for Valor. He was a dedicated fireman for thirty-five years, serving five years with the Marietta Fire Department and thirty-two years with the Rome Fire Department where he retired as a Battalion Chief. He spent most of his spare time serving many communities nationwide with charitable organizations such as Carpenters for Christ, Habitat for Humanity and The American Red Cross, just to name a few. He truly dedicated his life to serving others. He was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and served as a Deacon. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time outdoors with his family.
Along with his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Nyelia "Sam" Wilson; sons, Chad (April) Wilson and Andy (Haley) Wilson; grandchildren, Taylor, Sydney, Ally, Annaston, Sawyer, Maddox and Myles Wilson; great-grandson, Parker Wilson; brothers, Danny (Joy) Wilson and Joe (Karen) Wilson; sister, Ann (Doug) Williams; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 16th of November in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Hinkley and Rev. Harvey Cash officiating.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the evening until nine on Tuesday, the 15th of November, 2016 at Owen Funeral Home.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
