William R. Gaines

Mr. Gaines was born on September 18, 1933 in Rome, Georgia, son of the late Henry Wiley and Lyda Riggins Gaines. He moved to Cassville at an early age and became a lifelong resident of Bartow County. Mr. Gaines attended Kingston United Methodist Church.

Mr. Gaines proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the latter part of the Korean Conflict. Afterward, he worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation from which he retired after thirty plus years of dedicated service.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Barnett Gaines, and his sister, Susan Kennedy, whose husband, Ray Kennedy, passed away early Monday morning, November 14th.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Myra Ruff Gaines of Cartersville, GA; son William R. Gaines, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; grandsons, Henry and Hugh Gaines; nephews, Bob Kennedy and Andrew Kennedy; and niece, Katherine (Brian) Wallraven.

Friends are invited to a visitation with the family and a graveside service on Thursday, the 17th of November, 2016. Visitation will take place from 1:30 until 2:30 in the afternoon at Owen Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at approximately 3:00 in the afternoon at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mark Lovell officiating.
