Barbara Ann Nelson

Barbara Ann Nelson, age 77, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at The Retreat at Cary Corner. Born on March 20, 1946 in Moline, Illinois; she was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy Louis Nelson.

Having an extensive educational background, Barbara received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Illinois State University in 1968; a high school teaching certificate from the State of Illinois on May 14, 1968; a Master of Science in Psychology from Illinois State University in 1969; and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Wisconsin University in 1972.

She spent most of her career in teaching and research in University settings starting at Illinois State University as a Teaching Assistant. She then worked at the University of Wisconsin for two years before doing clinical research. From 1972 to 1977 she worked at the University of Oklahoma teaching graduate courses in Psychology and supervised teaching assistants at the University. She then moved to the University of Houston for two years as a counseling and testing intern and then on to Washington State University as a counseling Psychologist. Barbara received her Health Services Provider license from the North Carolina Psychology Board in December of 1994.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Cary Presbyterian Church, with inurnment within the church columbarium.
