Tina was born in Great Lakes, Illinois at the Great Lakes Naval Station while her father was stationed there during his tenure in the Navy. She moved to San Diego, CA as a small child and eventually relocated to Charleston, SC where she completed high school at Summerville High School. She spent a year at East Tennessee State University before transferring to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, earning dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Education and Agriculture/Food Science, along with a Master of Science degree in Food Science. She was active in the Sigma Kappa sorority, and met her husband, Chris, during her undergraduate college years at Tennessee. She began her 25-year career as the Food Safety Manager for Kellogg’s in Cary, NC, before transitioning to product planning / scheduling at Eisai and Biogen Pharmaceuticals.
The joys of Tina’s life were her son, Connor, and her family. Tina and Chris were married on July 17, 1999 and had recently celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary. Even through the pressures of a full-time job, she never missed a school event, making time to attend Connor’s school to read to students and to help coordinate and participate in field trips and events. She tirelessly helped with homework on evenings and weekends. She enjoyed exercise, and was up at 5am every morning to circuit train and to swim with her favorite water aerobics group, the Aqua Girls. Always a Tennessee football fan, she never missed a game, and was active in softball with her work teams. Tina loved to organize family events, and would plan, fund, and coordinate travel and housing for family beach and mountain vacations, bringing friends and relatives in from around the country.
Her strength and determination carried over into her cancer battle, enduring long months of chemo while still working and keeping up with her family. Even as she transitioned through every line of treatment available and her strength began to fade, she never stopped fighting and never gave up.
In addition to her son and husband, Tina leaves behind her mother, Judith Ann Perry, sister DeAnna Fields, brothers Micah and Shaine Perry, nephews Aubrey and Perry Fields, nephews Dameon, Donny, and Gabriel Perry, Uncles Mikel and Ray Donald Brown, Warren, Leon, and Rocky Perry, Aunts Gina (Perry) King, Gayle (Perry) Wheeler and Sandy (Brown) Crosson, and a host of other relatives and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Luther Perry and Uncle Larry Brown.
Tina appreciated every card, every letter, and the countless flowers and meals prepared by neighbors and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
A memorial service is planned to be held at a later date.
