Creighton Sanford "Craig" Wagner, 89, of Cary, North Carolina, died Friday, March 6, 2015, at Sunrise of Cary Assisted Living. Loving husband, father and grandfather, Craig is survived by his wife, Valdyss Wagner of Cary NC; daughter, Susan Wagner of Apex, NC; son, Michael Creighton Wagner and wife, Jennifer Wagner, of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Eric and Brett Wagner.
Born December 9, 1925 in the village of Goodrich, Genesee County, Michigan, Craig was the son of the late Howard K. Wagner and Lillian M. Ross and was preceded in death by his sister, Wreitha Miller, of Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Craig served his country in the US Army from 1944 until 1946 where he earned the military qualification of Rifle M-1 expert. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from Purdue University in 1948, but continued his education for many years attending classes at Princeton, Stanford, Rutgers and Columbia Universities when his work and family schedules permitted.
Craig lived and worked around the country throughout his 35 year career with AT&T “retiring” after supervising a team responsible for the preparation of AT&T’s defense in anti-trust litigation leading up to the divestiture of AT&T. This retirement didn’t last long and in 1986 he became a realtor working for both Merrill Lynch and Prudential Realty of New Jersey before moving himself and his wife to North Carolina to spend more time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Wildwood Church of Christ where he served as trustee and treasurer.
Craig loved to work on his home or “puttering around the house” as he called it and was able to do so right up until his final few months, when he was forced to stop due to illness. He enjoyed keeping in touch with old friends and family members and always kept an eye in newspapers and magazines for articles that might be of interest to those he loved. He was always there to help his family with home repair projects, dog sitting or wherever he could contribute.
A private family funeral service will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 at Wake Memorial Park with Pastor Bruce Taylor officiating.

Psalm 23:1-6
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in ipaths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
