Dennis Floyd O'Brien

Dennis was born April 26, 1944 in Stuart, Iowa to the late Wayne Francis O’Brien and Harriett Reighard O’Brien. He and his father owned and operated O’Brien Plumbing & Heating in Menlo, Iowa. In 1998, Dennis and Pat O’Brien relocated to Cary, NC, where they both were employed by NC State University. He was a devoted father, NASCAR fan, enjoyed annual family beach trips and was known as Papa to the grandchildren. Dennis was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Patricia Ann O’Brien; and brother-in-law, John Cashman.

Dennis is survived by his mother, Phyllis O’Brien; sons, David O’Brien and his wife, Lori of Advance, NC; Tim O’Brien and his wife, Carrie of Panora, IA; daughters, Christine Mentz and her husband, Tom of Iowa City, IA; and Jill Green of Fuquay-Varina, NC; brother, John O’Brien and his wife, Cathy of Ankeny, IA; sisters, Linda Cashman of West Des Moines, IA; Jayne Whetstone and her husband, Mark of Menlo, Iowa; and Julie O’Brien of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Gavin O’Brien; Jacob Mentz; Gracie O’Brien; Heidi Mentz; Sierra O’Brien; Saige O’Brien; and Zach Mentz.

The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Friday, January 18, 2013 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
