Elaine was born on February 10, 1940, in Hutchinson, Kansas. She graduated from the University of Kansas and remained a proud Jayhawk throughout her life, cheering faithfully for the KU basketball team.
She made Cary her home for the past 40 years, where she built a life filled with love, family, and lasting friendships. Elaine was an active member of P.E.O., where she cherished the fellowship of her sisters and the organization’s mission of supporting women’s education. A talented and avid quilter, she created countless pieces that reflected her creativity and warmth. She also dedicated many years to working with Alpha Delta Pi sorority chapters across the country, leaving a lasting impact on generations of young women.
Elaine will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
She is survived by her three sons, Robert Young, Steven Young, and Michael Young; her sister, Susan Elder; three grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Young, in 1999.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SAFEchild of Wake County, an organization devoted to preventing child abuse and supporting families. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
