My name is Chip Todd and I just read of Ellen passing.  I  knew her back in the 1980s. She was a sweet lady and would always listen if you needed to talk. She raised 2 wonderful kids. I  dated her daughter Kelly for a little while. Another sweet young lady. They will always hold a special place in my heart 

Ellen was everything great in one tiny package. I miss her so very much.

Ellen was a wonderful neighbor and sweet friend. I knew her through our neighborhood garden club and enjoyed her each time we visited. She was always asking and caring about others. More than once I would come home to find food or flowers by my door that Ellen had dropped by when she heard that my husband was in the hospital or there had been a death in the family.  I extend my deepest sympathy and pray for comfort as your family walks through this grief. Ellen will be missed by her neighbors!


My sister Debbie and I cannot even begin to thank the Kissiah family enough for sharing Mama Ellen with us for, well, most of our lives.  She was our mother’s best friend and guardian angel and a warm bright presence, always, in our lives. I remember a time or two when I was a teenager when she gently reminded me to be kind to my mom; I remember the time before I got married when she told me to wear white gloves; I remember the time during my first real job when she sent me a sturdy pin after I had a wardrobe malfunction on the job; I remember her kind words and calls after my mother died; and I still use the keychain she gave me forty years ago when I got my driver’s license.  Thank you Kissiah family and thank you Mama Ellen.  We will always love you. Words fail. 

The Covington and Coan family who lived across the street from the Kellys in Rockingham loved Ellen dearly. She was a lovely person, a dedicated nurse, and a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was so dignified and with a sense of humor both gentle and infectious. She certainly has been one of the brightest lights in our lives.

Mrs. Kissiah was born in Rockingham, NC. She was the youngest of three children born to the late Lauchlin Archibald Kelly and his wife, Eleanor Bruton Kelly. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kissiah, was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Richard Jackson Kissiah, Sr "Jack",, and two brothers, L.A. Kelly Jr., and Richard Kelly, and their wives, Evelyn Kelly and Kathryn Kelly. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Kelly Kissiah Pasley, her husband Robin Pasley and their sons, Jonathan and David and wife Kelsey; her son, Richard Jackson Kissiah, Jr., his wife Terri Kline Kissiah and their two sons, Jackson and Zachary, as well as a number of loving nieces and nephews.
