Evelyn Penny

Evelyn was born April 28, 1928 in Johnston County, NC to Chester King and Mary Roberts King. She married Robert Graham Penny in 1946 and followed her husband as he served our country in the military. They traveled to far and near places, along with their children, Robert, born in 1947 and Catherine, born in 1953. They spent twenty years in eight states and five countries, retiring in 1967. During these retirement years, Evelyn worked four years as a teacher’s aide and twelve years at the NC State Archives. She was also active in the Gideon’s Ladies Auxiliary, serving six years as president in NC, Child Evangelism Fellowship, and their local churches.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Penny.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 66 years, Graham Penny; daughter, Cathy Godwin and her husband, Jimmy; grandchildren, Melissa Godwin; Josh Godwin and his wife, Kenni; sisters, Rachel Tripp and her husband, Elton; and Bobbie Langdon of Cary.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church, 7900 Ten Ten Road, Raleigh, NC 27603. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, May 14, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
