

Mrs. Henderson was born on October 9, 1953 in Raleigh, NC to the late Margaret Horton Woodard and Hubert Earl Woodard, Jr. She was a 1971 graduate of Cary High School. Gail always considered herself to be a “Daddy’s girl!” She was taught to play the piano and organ by her grandmother Bess Franklin Woodard and her love of music led her to attend Meredith College where she majored in music. While attending Meredith, Gail was on the swim team and did synchronized swimming.
Gail and her husband Charles, met in Raleigh and were married for 42 years.
For many years Gail played the organ and piano in both Macedonia United Methodist Church and Gardner’s Methodist church (Fayetteville), as well as a member of the choir. Gail worked in banking as a teller for many years with BB&T and enjoyed working with the public. Gail had a love for animals, especially dogs and horses. She also had hobbies of traveling, loved the beach, all types of music, including The Beatles, an avid viewer of her favorite TV show Everybody Loves Raymond, a lifetime UNC Tarheel basketball fan where she rivaled her parents being fans of the Duke Blue Devil’s. Even though she lived in Fayetteville, she loved the Macedonia community and the town of Cary and had hopes to eventually return. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mrs. Henderson was preceded in death by her parents Hubert Earl Woodard, Jr. and Margaret Horton Woodard.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Jefferson Henderson, Jr, of Fayetteville; sons Clinton Gregory Woods of Raleigh, Stephen Douglass Henderson and his wife Hayley of Four Oaks; grandson Graham Parker Henderson and granddaughter Grace Ann Henderson; a special friend Mary Ann Warren; many loved cousins; and all of the beloved caregivers.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday September 22, 2023 at Macedonia United Methodist Church, 2700 Jones Franklin Road, Cary, NC 27518. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm.
