A native of Kinston, North Carolina she was preceded in death by her parents Edward Stallings and Nellie Mae Stallings Warren of Kinston. She is survived by her devoted husband Kenneth L. Thigpen of Raleigh; loving daughters Sheri Gupton of Holly Springs and Tammy Franklin of Raleigh; doting sons-in-law Tony Gupton and Scott Franklin; two energetic grandchildren Caleb (5) and Josh (3) Franklin; and sister Diane S. Taylor of Kinston.
Mrs. Thigpen had a distinguished 30-year career as a public servant with the State of North Carolina and served in her last role as Chief Clerk of the Utilities Commission. Upon her retirement in 2006 she was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Mike Easley. She was often described as a consummate professional by her colleagues and was well respected by all who knew her.
Geneva was a loving wife, sister, mother, aunt, and a doting grandmother. She enjoyed reading, playing golf, fishing, long bike rides at the beach, and sitting in her favorite porch swing at her vacation home on Emerald Isle. Geneva was a passionate Wolfpack fan and loved Carolina Panthers football. She was an active member of the Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and a Deacon and participated in numerous volunteer activities over the years.
Visitation at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary on January 25th from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be held on January 26th at 11am at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church.
