Butterbean was, in my opinion, one of those people you meet on the journey of life that leaves you with a respect for their way of life.
He was a devoted brother submariner, who, never missed the chance to enlist other submariners into the Tarheel Base. 
His sense of humor and kidding with base members was a joy to watch and be a part of.

I am so very sorry to hear about Bill.  I have been praying for you and hope that you are able to find peace.  I still remember meeting him for the first time, so many years ago, when Mary first moved onto Carolyn Court 20 years ago.  Bill will be definitely be missed by many.

Dear Barb,
Bill was such a huge positive influence on Chuck, me and so very many people at LORD Corporation. His genuine laughter, never taking anyone too seriously, his absolute faith in God & country & his fellow service members, and his love for friends and family, was a shining example for all of us to live by. The lunches we had were so much fun too...after Covid-19, we will have another one to honor Bill, and share with you. Please let us help in any way you can think of... Speaking for the Tarheel Base Submarine Veterans, we offer our deepest condolences to Barb, and the family. The "Bean", as we called him was one of the most devoted people in each and every task that he did for the Submarine Veterans.
He was always ready with some quick wit, which made quite a few of us respect him, and appreciate his demeanor.
Bean was a very religious person, and when he was involved in any member's passing, would contribute to the fullest extent, greeting the families and offering kind and consoling words of comfort, for which they appreciated.
Personally, I had the utmost respect for Bean and will greatly miss him. He was a beacon for all of us in his activities not only for the submarine veterans, but everyone who had contact with him.
Wishing the Bean, fair winds and following seas....Sailor, rest your oar, we have the watch.

Billy you will be missed. I am glad to have shared memories of your Dad when I last saw you. The times I spent on your parents farm during summers while I was growing up have always been my fondest memories. God Bless the Dixon Family.

Please accept my sincere sympathies.  Billy was a true Christian like his awesome, inspirational mother.  Thank you Billy for sharing  your wonderful parents with us distant cousins.  Love and prayers to Billy's son, grand son, and all of his loved ones.  🍀🙏☘😘

I met Bill thru USSVI. I was at the National convention in Orlando Fla. and was going thru a very rough time in my life. we talked for several hours and prayed a lot. He got me thru the darkness and he told me thru Christ things would get better and they did!!! I will never forget that. GOD BLESS HIM and HIS FAMILY

Bill was a good and caring shipmate, and I hope and pray that eternal peace and happiness is his.  I also hope and pray for his family to find peace during these sad times.

I want send my deepest Sympathy to the family of Bill we had some good times working together at Southern Case.  Then I went own to work with his wife Barbara at Rex Hospital.  Wonderful people and it is a pleasure knowing them.
