A 'Celebration of Life - Honoring Harry Franklin Weddington, Jr. (1935-2014)' - will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. It's a joyous gathering (not a funeral) for camaraderie to celebrate, share stories, laugh, and maybe shed a tear or two; of sorrow, of joy.
Childhood
Harry grew up in Salisbury, NC with a love for the outdoors. He attended and graduated from Salisbury Boyden High School with the Class of 1954. Harry was a member of the high school football team.
Air Force Veteran
Upon graduating from high school, Harry embarked on a 10-year enlistment with the U.S. Air Force becoming a Staff Sergeant. Harry completed tours of duty in Washington, Arizona, Maine, Oklahoma, and multiple special assignments for training and special duty.
IBM Employee
After leaving the U.S. Air Force, Harry returned home to North Carolina and was hired by International Business Machines (IBM). Harry started work with IBM in 1964 and retired in 1997. While Harry was with IBM, he and Mary Ann completed an international assignment in Rome, Italy, for two years where they made many lasting friends and memories.
Private Pilot
In 1990, Harry embarked on a journey to become a private pilot and aircraft owner. Harry was the proud owner of a Cessna 150 and flew many hours from 1990 to 2008 out of Raleigh East Airport. He enjoyed the time and camaraderie with his airport buddies on weekends.
In the Kitchen
Harry had superb culinary skills including bread baking, known and loved as Peepa Bread by the grandkids, and the invention of the wildly popular, delectable Stomped Chicken Dinner that forever made a lasting impression on his own children.
Fisherman
An outdoorsman all of his life, Harry was an avid fly fisherman - a master with the rod, at fly tying, and teaching. He taught his four sons, all veterans, how to fly fish. Project Healing Waters is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings.
In Lieu of Flowers
