Henry was born on August 5th, 1936 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He graduated from Catholic High School for Boys, Memphis TN, in 1955. He then served 8 years in the Air Force and received an honorable discharge as an Airman First Class. He served overseas in Japan and Germany and finished his service at Walker Air Force base, Roswell NM. On February 12, 1964, he married his sweetheart Roswitha Nolte in Darmstadt, Germany.
He graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science from Memphis State University. He worked for 25 1/2 years at IBM as a computer programmer.
Henry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending family time at sports games, vacations, and special occasions. He also loved playing golf, bowling, and fishing. He spent many years creating beautiful stained glass art pieces and enjoyed many hands on hobbies including woodworking and working on cars.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Roswitha Hamling, son John, daughter Caroline, sister Lucille Belote, and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Hamling, sister Rose Hamling, and sister Geraldine Hamling.
There will be a memorial service held for Henry on Friday, November 8th at 10am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cary, North Carolina. His family is requesting that in lieu of flowers a tribute donation may be made to the American Heart Association.
