

Irene Dakin Godar, 85, of Raleigh, died peacefully on March 13, 2011. In her professional life Irene taught elementary school at St. William’s Catholic School in St. Louis, Missouri and at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in Tacoma Park, Maryland. She also worked as a receptionist at the Raleigh Orthopedic Clinic for many years. But she considered her real career to be centered around her family. Her greatest goal was to be a good wife to her husband, a good mother to her children, and a wonderful grandmother, all of which she accomplished beautifully.
Irene is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, A. Stephen Godar of Raleigh; her children, Dr. Jeanne Godar Davis (John) of Janesville, WI, Anne Godar Hess of Raleigh and Dr. Stephen Godar of Fort Morgan, CO. Surviving grandchildren are Michael, Chris, Anna Davis, Will Hess and Elizabeth Godar. Irene is also survived by her sisters, Vivian Sheible, Josephine Poole and Virginia Holshouser, brothers, Joseph, Rusty and Roy Dakin.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Kate Hess and sisters, Dorothy Boernier and Edith Guild, and brother William Dakin.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2011 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Road, Cary. Inurnment at St. Michael Catholic Church Columbarium will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 17, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary.
