

Jim graduated high school at Saint Basils in Pittsburgh in 1956. After high school, he served 2 years in the US Navy. In June 1958, he attended Penn Technical School, and after 2 years graduated first in his class. In 1960, he started his career with IBM in Endicott, NY. At IBM, he worked in a number of product development positions, including Vice President of Communications Product Development leading 1000 engineers and programmers. He retired from IBM in Raleigh, NC on April 30, 1996.
He led the effort to build and fund the new Cardinal Gibbons High School. He was chairman of that Board for 8 of those 9 years. Jim led the effort to build St. Andrew’s church in Apex, NC. The parish grew from 150 families to over 1000 families when they moved into the church. He also led the effort to build St. Thomas Moore church in Austin, TX. He served on the MacGregor Downs Board for 2 years and on the Diocese of Raleigh School Board for several years.
Jim was fun to be with because of his quick Irish wit and positive attitude. Nothing was too hard for him. He was a leader. He loved his family and was very supportive of them. He had a kind and generous heart. He will be missed by many.
Jim joins his parents, 9 brothers, and 3 sisters in Heaven. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen; his 2 children, Jamie (Brooke) and Denise (Rod Gunter); 4 grandchildren, Tatym, Bailey, Daniel and Meredith; and 52 nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Road, Cary, NC 27513. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at a reception in the Parish Center. A graveside service will be held afterward at 3:00pm at Wake Memorial Park, 7002 Green Hope School Road, Cary, NC 27519.
