

James Joseph McClay Jr., age 90, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
A proud father, devoted husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jim was born in 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, and lived a rich and fulfilling life defined by love, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to his family.
Jim was the beloved husband of Cathy, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage—a testament to their enduring love and commitment. He was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame and served honorably as a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.
A respected leader in the steel industry, Jim built a distinguished career in sales and leadership, known for his tireless work ethic, integrity, and ability to inspire those around him. His professional accomplishments were matched only by his deep devotion to his family.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife, Cathy; four children—Kelly, Kim, Jim, and Kevin; thirteen cherished grandchildren; and seven adored great-grandchildren. Each will carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and faith.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—traveling the world with Cathy, tending to his meticulously landscaped yard, and creating a welcoming space for family gatherings. His warm presence, unwavering support, and infectious enthusiasm for life touched everyone who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
Following the visitation, a funeral Mass will be celebrated from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Road, Apex, NC 27502.
