June Stewart Duke, a beloved and devoted member of her community, passed away on November 14, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on February 27, 1931, in Camilla, Georgia, June moved with her family to Jacksonville, Florida, where she spent her formative years. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, the Reverend Harvey L. Duke, with whom she shared a faithful partnership in ministry for over 40 years. Together, they served at the First Baptist Church in Cary, North Carolina, for 28 years beginning in 1969.
June was also preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca Wasner, and her parents, Leon V. Stewart and Mildred (Rackley) Stewart. She met the love of her life, Harvey Duke, during her time at Robert E. High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and they were married while he was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
June was a hard-working and loyal servant for her church community, being especially proud of her work with the 5-year-old Sunday School class at First Baptist for more than 20 years. She is survived by her sons, David Duke (wife Paula) of Cary, and Mark Duke (wife Becky) of Tyrone, Georgia, as well as seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
June was a blessing to many and will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. A memorial service will be announced and held in 2026 for her family and many friends. A private graveside service will take place at Raleigh Memorial Park, where June will be laid to rest next to her husband, Harvey.
