It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Katherine Claire Gibson Wright, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Katie was born on March 6, 1980, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and passed away on March 14, 2025.
She is survived by her children, Lucy and Jack, who were the light of her life, as well as her parents, Mike and Joann Gibson, her siblings, Michael (Sarah) Gibson and Jill (Chris) Miller. She is also survived by her grandmother, Claire Nemesi, five nieces and nephews, 17 aunts and uncles from the Gibson and Nemesi families, and her “cousins by the dozens.” She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph Nemesi, and Byron and Verba Gibson.
Katie's fiery spirit was evident from a young age, whether she was belting out "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow" while her mom shopped for groceries or enthusiastically volunteering and cold calling for her favorite politician. During her middle school years, Katie discovered her love for theater and singing—a passion that stayed with her throughout her life. She later graduated from NC State University, where she sang with the acapella group, Acapology. Katie worked in sales and marketing for respected companies like Pitney Bowes and NetApp, where she formed lasting professional relationships.
Katie’s greatest pride and joy in life were her children, Lucy and Jack. She loved being their mother more than anything, and she was eternally grateful for the care and support of their father, Stuart (Mary Brooke) Wright. Whether sharing her favorite music with Lucy or engaging in playful banter with Jack, Katie treasured every moment spent with her children.
Katie was an exceptional cook who loved to experiment with new recipes and share her culinary creations with family. She had a special fondness for the beach and was always eager to visit new destinations, including Japan, Australia, and London.
A passionate sports fan, Katie was an ardent supporter of NC State and a lifelong fan of Michigan State. She was also a lover of the arts, frequently attending plays and concerts. One of her most cherished memories was attending a Taylor Swift concert with her daughter, sister, and niece.
Katie’s warm heart, sense of humor, passion for life, and beautiful singing voice will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
