Kenneth Williams Downes, 97, was born to Elizabeth Williams and Daniel Thomas Downes in Wilkinsburg, PA. During WWII, Kenneth served in the US Army’s Special Engineering Detachment at Oak Ridge, TN, and was involved with the Manhattan Project. Afterward, Kenneth worked as a nuclear physicist for the remainder of his career.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mary Rhyne Downes. Together they have 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Kenneth enjoyed sailing, chess, go, and playing cards. He and Mary traveled extensively throughout the world.
