Born February 17, 1928 in Texarkana, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Bennie Lawrence Bell and Lela Marie Haase Bell.
In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 43 years, Billie Jefferson Flynt, whom she met in Vicksburg, Mississippi and married in 1947.
Mary Lou is survived by her brother, Paul Edward Bell and his wife, Mary of Memphis, TN; son, Billie J. Flynt, Jr. and his wife, Laura of Asheville; son, Michael L. Flynt and his wife, Janet of Apex; daughter, Mary P. Phillips and her husband, Jonathan of Fort Washington, MD; and granddaughter, Nina L. Kammerich and her husband, Anthony of Wilmington.
Mary Lou was a long time resident of Cary, where she lived with her family since 1959. She loved flowers of all kinds and cultivated African violets and orchids. Her pets were an important part of her life; she always had a dog, a cat, or some combination of the two. Her sons often brought home injured or orphaned animals from the forest that she would care for.
She was a loving, devoted mother whose only desire was to see her children and only grandchild happy and successful. All in her presence felt as if they were the most important, most handsome creature she had ever laid eyes on. She was ever appreciative of the things people did for her. She had a fine attention to detail and found beauty in the smallest things. Mary Lou was a lover of nature, especially the beach and birds. Through her love and care, she touched so many and will be deeply missed by all.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 11:00 am, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. A committal of Mary Lou’s ashes will take place at a later time at the Greenwood Forest Baptist Church Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
