Surrounded by his family and resting in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ, Pete James Metros, age 85, entered into the presence of his Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2026 from his home in Raleigh, North Carolina following an illness.
Pete was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Miriam (Nash) Metros; his children Christine (Metros) Seymour, Ellene Metros, Greg Nash, and Aimee (Nash) Glupker, and his cherished sons & daughter-in-law Justin Seymour, Lisa Nash, and Chris Glupker.
One of Pete's greatest joys was his role as "Papou" to his eight grandchildren, who will forever carry his love, guidance and steady presence in their hearts:
Julian "Pete" & Graham Seymour; Ethan & Peyton Nash, and Olivia, Audrey, Maxwell & Samuel Glupker.
Pete and Miriam relocated from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Cary, North Carolina in 2007 where they became active members of Colonial Baptist Church, now Shepherd's Church, under the leadership of Pastor Stephen Davey. Pete’s faith was central to his life. Pete and Miriam are also steadfast supporters of Cary Christian School, believing deeply in the importance of Christ-centered education and discipleship.
Born in Atlanta, GA in 1940 to Greek immigrants, Demetrious and Panagiota Metropoulos, Pete attended Grady High School and grew up surrounded by a close-knit Greek community. He was preceded in death by his loving older sister, Helen Burleigh, who watched over him with care throughout his life. He is survived by cousins and lifelong friends, George and Solon Patterson and their families.
Through an ROTC scholarship, Pete earned his Bachelor's degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and proudly served his country as an Ordnance Officer, stationed in France, Germany and Turkey.
Blessed with remarkable leadership gifts, Pete enjoyed a distinguished career as a global corporate executive. He began at General Electric, recruited into the Crotonville Leadership Development Program, and rose through the ranks, managing manufacturing operations within the Gas Turbine Division in Greenville, SC and Schenectady, NY
In the 1980s, Pete left GE to lead the Turbodyne Division of McGraw-Edison, later Dresser Industries, in Wellsville, NY. He played a key role in the joint venture with Ingersoll-Rand that led to the creation of Dresser-Rand.
Recruited in 1987 by Lear Siegler, owned by PE firm Forstmann & Little, Pete served as President of Neway Truck Equipment in Muskegon, MI, before moving to Grand Rapids to lead Rapistan. As President of Rapistan, Pete spent nearly 18 years driving innovation and expansion across airports, postal and parcel systems and large distribution centers. Pete retired from Rapistan in 2003.
Never content to slow down entirely and not wishing to focus solely on his hobbies like cheering for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets or golf, hunting and fishing, Pete co-founded RFIDentics, a pioneering technology startup, supporting advancements in smart RFID tags. He later served on the Board of Directors of eAgile, an RFID-focused healthcare technology spinoff,
Pete's life was a testament to faithful stewardship, servant leadership, and enduring love. Those who knew him experienced his kindness, wisdom and genuine care. He believed deeply in the mercy, forgiveness and saving hope of Jesus Christ. In his own testimony he concluded "God's grace is a gift, not a wage; not to be earned but rather it is freely given." One of his favorite Bible passages is Jeremiah 9:23 & 24 "Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom. Let not the mighty man boast of his might. Let not the rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts glory in this: That he understands and knows Me, that I AM the Lord, who exercises lovingkindness, judgement and righteousness in the earth."
