I have very fond memories of Phil at BW, during work & play. He was kind, smart, fun to talk with, could explain anything and was always making people laugh. My favorite memory was going along on his Unicorn Club sponsored Ski Trip bus, with his jokes & good humor at 4am in the morning.

I remember Phil from his Pharmacology days at BW. Condolences and kind thoughts to his family and many friends.

Phil was a friend of my daughter, DIANE Miller HOWARD and his dad was one of the best maintence men at BW.  He and I used to joke about my working on Coccidia which I was isolating from chicken droppings.  He would ask what I was working on today and the cluck like a chicken and laugh and laugh.  I'm certain Phil had the same personality as his dad.

I worked with Phil at Burroughs Wellcome. I have fond memories of him. He was fun to be around and I enjoyed working with him for many years.

My condolences to the Johnston family on the passing of Phil.  I knew him from Burroughs Wellcome Co., and also knew his dad, Bob.  May he rest in peace.

Though I cannot be at the service tomorrow I will wear bright colors and think of Phil and his family. We worked together at BW for 20+ years. I remember his smile and laugh. He is gone too soon, but our memories will stay. God Bless his family.

I sincerely value the years that I knew and worked with Phil at King Pharmaceuticals and the times that we conversed after King was gone. Having the same Birthdate, there was always challenge to see which one would remember and send wishes first; 90% of the time Phil would be the first.  He always had a clear and impressive view on any topic that you discussed with him and was always willing to help in any situation.  My prayers and thoughts go out to the Family of a dear and close friend.

I worked with Phil for a couple years (85-87) in the Pharmacology Dept at BW. As it was my first real job after college, Phil helped me feel welcome and taught me a lot. Will miss his great laugh. Condolences to Kathryn and the family.

I met Phil at Burroughs Wellcome in the early 1990's.  He was friendly, funny, a stylish dresser and a southern gentleman.  My thoughts are with you during this time.

Phil was a pleasure to be around, when I worked with him at BW. He took the work seriously but didn't take himself too seriously, which made for fun times. It was dangerous to be in a meeting with Phil, because he would catch your eye and mouth a punchline to a joke, trying to crack you up. Not many like him; he will be missed.

Knew Phil and his Dad during all their years at Wellcome.  Phil was a fellow carpooler in the mid-70s.  I share the sadness and express my deep condolences.

I remember Phil as a positive and kind colleague and friend. He was always willing to go above and beyond to help others. I still have clear memories of his fabulous sense of style, his office that was 20 degrees cooler than anyone else's, great Tommy Bahama shirts and colorful stories. Phil and his family are in my heart and prayers. He will be greatly missed.

Phil was a unique and colorful person and dear friend. We go back to 1974, when he was in my wedding. Remember the fun times we had, particularly playing cards, while I read a certain magazine.
He had a great zest for life and made everybody happy to be around him. He will be missed.

I will remember Phil for his love of learning and for his love of vocabulary.  He loved finding just the right word to describe something and had a journalist's sense of brevity in his writing.  

I will also remember Phil for his wit and jovial nature, work ethic, tailor's eye, and positive outlook.  He held is family in high regard and had a strong sense of duty to them, despite differences of opinion, and wished only the best for them.

Phil, I'll miss your calls for help with your computer and the long conversations that provided time for.   Peace to you my friend.

I have many great memories of our days working with Phil at King.  I remembered his kind demeanor, his colorful shirts, his witty sense oh humor.... I remembered many sushi lunches as well as some dinners with Ted and i.  I was glad to know Phil and proud to call him my friend.  He is gone too soon.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time.
