

Robert S. “Bob” Rubush, 75, passed away December 3, 2023 at WakeMed Cary Hospital after a brief and unexpected illness. He was born January 25, 1948 in Roanoke, VA, son of the late Robert M. Rubush Jr. and Margaret Tarter Rubush. He was educated in schools in Virginia, Michigan, and Ohio, and graduated from Ravenna High School (OH) in 1966. He was a graduate of Wittenberg University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1970. He was employed by Cooper Industries and its subsidiaries Lufkin and Campbell Chain for a career lasting more than 30 years, with roles in York, PA, and Apex, NC. Bob was an avid traveler who enjoyed visiting historic sites in his native Virginia and elsewhere along the Eastern Seaboard, exploring national parks in the Western States, and spending time at a family beach cottage in Chincoteague, VA. Bob was an active member of Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church in Cary, NC, for nearly 37 years. Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ann Rubush, of Cary, NC; sons Scott Rubush (Elizabeth) of Downingtown, PA, and Matthew Rubush (Michelle) of Cary, NC; daughter Katherine “Katie” Welsh (Robert) of Asheville, NC; sister Sarah Rubush of Roanoke, VA; brother- and sister-in-law Matthew (Rita) Rutherford of Wilmington, DE and Donna Rutherford (Arthur Rutherford III, d. 2014) of Austin, TX, and a very special aunt Katherine Tarter of Roanoke, VA. Nephews Arthur Rutherford IV (Diana) of Austin, TX, and Matthew Rutherford, Jr (Erin), of Jackson, MS, also survive. Above all, he is also survived by two young grandchildren, Paul and Norah Rubush of Downingtown, PA, who were the light of his life. A memorial service will be held at Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church in Cary at 11:00am on Monday, December 11, 2023, with Rev. Dr. Steve Schaick officiating. A private interment ceremony will be held at a later time to be determined by the family. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Endowment Fund, c/o Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 405 W.
