Becky Viersen passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday Feb. 24, 2026. Becky was a native of Sanford, NC. She attended Sanford Central High School, received her undergraduate, Masters and PHD in Education from UNC Chapel Hill.
Becky spent her education career in the Wake County Public School System, first as a kindergarten teacher and ending her career as an Assistant Principal at GT Washington Elementary School.
Becky’s passion was assisting individuals with their education. Whether it was a kindergarten student or one of her recent GED students, she was determined to ensure they had a way to be successful.
Becky was a long time member of First Cary Methodist Church, where she was active in her Sunday School Class, Circle, and a number of committees.
Some years ago, she and her husband Lee (now deceased) started a non-profit called “ Bridge the Gap”. “Bridge the Gap” Mission is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for low-income and disadvantaged individuals and families by helping to provide for their immediate needs. “Bridge the Gap” focused on bringing resources to the Southeast Raleigh Community. Becky inspired others to assist and create opportunities for families facing challenges.
