

Winifred Coggin was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1927. She arrived in the United States in 1945 and was the first war bride in Mooresville, North Carolina. She lived in the Apex/Green Level area for over 60 years. She was proud to live in the United States and said it "was the land of opportunity". She worked in the Wake County school system with special needs students for nearly two decades. She was beloved by all the children.
She is survived by four children, Earl Coggin of Erwin, NC, Tommy Coggin of Holly Springs, NC, Helen Coggin of Colorado Springs, CO and Mary Phillips and husband, Richard, of Big Stone Gap, VA; five grandchildren, Kevin Hobbs, Scott Hobbs, Kelly Zellman and husband, Chris, Steve Coggin, Martha Sanders and husband, Adam; one great granddaughter, Ava Zellman; one sister, Anne Hunter of Sussex, England; and five special nieces, Marie Outland, Crystal Arnold, Monica Ruiz, Velvet Lyle and Trish Grealey.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
