Don was a lifelong farmer who dedicated many years to working the fields in Casa Grande. His passion for agriculture later led him to Oklahoma, where he ran a small cattle operation. Even after stepping away from farming, Don’s strong work ethic never slowed—he went on to drive a livestock truck and later served as a bus driver for the Casa Grande Elementary School District, where he enjoyed being part of the community in a new way.
He was a man who truly loved working with his hands and caring for animals. Don was known for his incredible sense of direction—often described as a “walking GPS”—always knowing not just the way, but the back way, to get anywhere in Arizona. He had a gift for storytelling and could often be found sharing memories of the old days with anyone willing to listen.
Above all, Don will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, something he proudly instilled in his daughters. He believed in showing up, working hard, and doing right by others. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends, family, or anyone in need—never asking for anything in return.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Stephens and Debb Stephens, and his brother, Tom Stephens.
He is survived by his sister Debbie Hansen, loving wife, Colleen Stephens; his daughters, Robin Stephens and Ashley Stephens; and his cherished granddaughter, Bonnie Hunsaker.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 11th at 10:00 a.m. at J. Warren Funeral Homes.
Don’s legacy lives on in the values he passed down, the lives he touched, and the stories that will continue to be shared for generations.
