The evening of Monday, February 17, 2020, William "Wayne” Evans entered into the open arms of Jesus, his Savior. Wayne succumbed to injuries suffered in a vehicular accident two weeks earlier. He grew up in Everson, a small town in northern Washington, attending Nooksack Valley schools. He was a stand-out wrestler during his high school years and served as a coach of the Pioneer Pups (a youth wrestling program) for one year. Nobody was pinned and everybody won when he coached. Wayne was highly competitive in his high school wrestling endeavors, competing at the state level. After attending college at Green River Community College, Wayne chose to enter a career in mortgage banking. His Type A personality brought him a high degree of success. He worked at several different banks in Washington before moving to California. A few years passed and a mutual friend introduced him to Melissa Arkelin. His focus shifted from a future filled with work to a future filled with family. He indulged his flair for the extravagant by proposing to her on a trip to Venice, Italy. Wayne and Melissa were married in Santa Barbara, CA on March 15, 2008. In time, their family grew, adding two little girls to the mix. In 2018, they decided that a move to Colorado would be beneficial to their family and they moved to Castle Rock, CO. Wayne was preceded in death by his step-father, Robert J. Bateman and is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa and his two little girls, Madison, age 10 and Abby, age 7. Also surviving Wayne are his siblings and step-sibling, Jeannine Evans, Brian Davidson, Nicole Baughn, Matt Bateman (Brea Bateman), and James Harpole, father and step-mother, Bill and Mary Evans, mother Cynthia Bateman and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service honoring Wayne's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at New Covenant Church, Larkspur, CO.
