

Betty Margaret Gelroth of Castle Rock,Colorado passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the age of 87. She was born on December 25, 1935 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Hazel Wehmhoff Burgess and Pete Burgess. The family was living in FairPlay at the time of her birth, but settled in Castle Rock in 1939-40 when her dad bought the Ford car dealership.
Betty lived her life in Castle Rock with her three younger siblings, Dan, Jane and Kenny.She attended elementary school at the Cantril building and entered into high school in 8th grade at the Wilcox building. Here she met her sweetheart, Marvin Gelroth. She was a good student and loved music. She was a cheerleader as well as a member of the rainbow girls. One of her claims to fame was cutting the ribbon to open I-25 from Denver to Colorado Springs.
Betty graduated from DCHS in 1953and attendedColorado State University in Fort Collins. She loved being an “Aggie” and was a life long fan of the Rams. She was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority.
Betty married Marvin in 1955 they had three children , Joyce, Kelly and Kevin. She spent many years as a daycare provider for many of the teacher’s children that Marvin worked with. Later she took a job at Douglas County High School as a secretary working in the attendance office and as a secretary for the assistant principal. She enjoyed being around young people.
Betty was an active member of the First United Methodists Church. Her faith was very important to her. She loved a good game of bridge and played frequently. She was a member of the Skyline chapter of the Sweet Adelines and sang and competed until her mobility became an issue.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert(Pete) Burgess, Hazel Wehmhoff Burgess, her brother Dan Burgess and her husband Marvin Gelroth.
She is survived by her 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. All who loved her dearly. She will always be remembered by her amazing smile and the love she shared.
