

Michael "Mike" Allen Henry, 65, of Franktown, CO passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 surrounded by his family. Mike was born August 8, 1952 to Richard and Mary Henry in St. Louis, MO. He was educated at General William Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs, CO and graduated in 1970. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1971, serving as an Electronics Technician assigned to the USS Aylwin engaged in the Mediterranean Sea until his honorable discharge in 1977. In 1981 he married Betty Johnson of Fort Morgan, CO and they have two children and four grandchildren. Mike and his family lived in beautiful Franktown, CO, surrounded by the trees and mountain views he cherished. Mike worked in Denver CO in Telecommunications as a Programmer at AT&T and as a Support Coordinator at TW Telecom and Level 3. In February 2016 he was diagnosed with Cancer.
Mike was an avid car enthusiast, especially for Lotus cars, and was a founding member of the Lotus Colorado "LOCO" car club in 1980. He ran the SCCA Solo II program for the Denver chapter from 1982 through 1983 and raced his Lotus Europa. He was also an active member of the Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing "RMVR" club where he raced a Winkelmann Formula Ford and a Lotus Formula B under number 20. He spent weekends with his wife and children at race tracks, working on cars in his garage, and driving through the scenic mountains of Colorado in his Lotus 7 or MG. He had many other hobbies as well and enjoyed electronics, photography, clocks, trains, technology and stereo equipment, music, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. He delighted in new challenges and troubleshooting problems, not only for the opportunity to explore, but also for the teaching moments they provided. He will be remembered most for his kindness, dedication, willingness to help, and sense of humor.
Mike leaves his beloved wife Betty; their son David Henry with his wife Janelle and his children Elijah and Tyler; and their daughter Jennifer Hammond with her husband Chris and her children Oliver and Adelaide. He is also survived by his siblings Mary Thornton, Robert Henry with his wife Heather and his children Danielle and Robert, and Richard Henry; by his mother Mary Henry; and by several in laws and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Richard Henry. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
A Memorial Service was held at 10:00 am, Friday, September 29 at The Castle Rock Church of Christ, 2247 5th St, Castle Rock, CO 80104. Minister Matthew Morine was the officiate.Burial services are private and will be held at Ft. Logan in honor of his military service.
