Thomas Herman, a beloved brother in Christ, passed away on November 12, 2020, in Northglenn, Colorado, at the age of 75. He was born on June 10, 1945 to Charles and Charlotte Herman. Tom, as he liked to be called, was a Colorado boy, growing up and graduating High School in Sheridan, Colorado. After High School, he attended Regis University and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelors Degree. It was in that year, he met his future wife, Yvonne and they were married on May 25, 1971.
Tom was very passionate about military history, playing games that presented the different battles. When computers started to make their way into homes, Tom jumped right in, buying a computer for himself. It was amazing to see him try many different pursuits, such as learning to play the piano. If it needed to be done and he didn’t know how, he would do his best to learn it.
Tom had a successful career working for the Colorado Department of Revenue, retiring from there in the early 2000’s. However, it’s not a person’s job which makes him who he is but what he does for the people who are around him. Tom had an influence far beyond even his imagination. He probably never knew in his lifetime, all the people he blessed. Yet, as Tom would tell you, it wasn’t him blessing them but the Lord working through him. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. What can be said of a man who cared deeply for others the way Christ did? A man that was very generous and encouraging. A man that would go out of his way to greet people in church, who was warm and affectionate, yet, telling you what he thought. He was a faithful member of the church of Christ since 1991, when he was baptized into Christ. As he grew in the Lord, Tom learned to teach the Bible, even taking classes in a local Bible training program. Once he gained the confidence, he started conducting personal Bible studies with people, teaching Sunday School, and either baptizing or helping with baptisms in the church. Recently, he took on the difficutlt task of teaching the book of Revelation, doing an outstanding job with such a tough book. He was in the process of teaching it when he passed. Yet, he served the Lord in other useful ways also, like learning to do the church yard work, including fixing an old, ran down sprinkler system. If something needed to be done, he would jump right in and help. While he didn’t have any children, he cared for the younger people in the church, taking them out to eat or being there for them, treating them as a father would treat them. With his passing, much of his advice and encouragement comes to mind. It’s amazing the memories a person leaves with you, and the influence which continues long after they are gone.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Charlotte Herman.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Yvonne Herman; and his sister, Alice Ellis; but he has numerous friends who considered him family.
