Warren Edwin Gresham was born on March 23,1931 on the family farm west of Elbert, Colorado, the firstborn of Frank and Mae (Squires) Gresham. He passed away on January 7, 2026 in a house twenty feet from the one where he was born. Warren attended the one-room West Lincoln School a mile from home with his brother, Allen, and sister, Ann, through the 8th grade and graduated from Elbert High School in 1949.
In 1950, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Japan and Korea during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to Elbert. He married Helene Adams on June 20, 1954 in Elbert Christian Church, the church where they grew up together.
Warren ran a milk truck route, picking up milk and cream from farmers in El Paso, Elbert, and Douglas Counties and delivering it to Larkspur. In 1960, Warren was appointed to Postmaster of Elbert and served in this position for 39 years, retiring in 1999.
Warren was baptized as a child in 1941 at Elbert Christian Church and served faithfully throughout his life as an Elder, Deacon, Treasurer, Choir Director, and Sunday School Teacher. He played the organ for church and sang and played guitar with a worship team. He also filled in for the preacher at times. Warren’s faith in Jesus Christ, his wisdom, and his love guided his family and provided a firm spiritual foundation for their lives. It also made him a trusted friend, advisor, and community leader in Elbert.
He was instrumental in the creation of the Elbert Fire Protection District in 1978, serving 5 terms on the Fire Board. He also taught Hunter Safety classes and was a 4-H leader.
Warren and Helene purchased the family farm in 1965 where they raised their three sons. Warren produced sheep, cattle, wheat and hay while also working as the postmaster. In 2025, the Gresham Farm was recognized as a Colorado Centennial Farm and Ranch.
Beginning in 2008, Warren lived out his faith as the sole caregiver for his wife, Helene, until her death in 2019. He made daily trips to the hospital in Parker from August to December 2008 so she wouldn’t be alone, then cared for her at home. Warren’s love and devotion to Helene will forever set the standard for love for those who knew him.
Warren is preceded in death by his loving wife, Helene Gresham; his brother, Allen Gresham; sister, Ann Gresham Long, and his grandson, Mark Allen Gresham.
He leaves behind his three sons, their wives and children: Jim and Dianne Gresham of Jeannette, Pennsylvania and daughter, Amy; John and Gayle Gresham of Elbert and daughter, Kate Gresham Dickson, her husband, Jeff Dickson; and son, Kenny, and his children Ansley, John Andrew and Jaycee; and Thomas and Heather Gresham of Elbert and sons Austin, Jesse, and Bryce and grandson, Tobin, (Mark’s son).
Funeral services will be held at Elbert Christian Church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026 with a viewing at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Elbert Cemetery following the service and then a meal will served at the church.
