On August 23, 2014, Deborah (Debbie) Alex Wetzel, age 57, passed away from a 10 year battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer. She was a beloved mother, survived by her 3 daughters, Ashley Bashur (Mitchell), Kelly Wetzel (Jacquie Talesnick), and Lauren Wetzel, a loving daughter to Frances and the late Albert Alex, cousin to Marylisa Kayne, and a faithful friend to many in the Catonsville community. A retired Mount de Sales teacher and office manager, she wanted to be known first and foremost as a mother. She spent much of her time volunteering with various organizations, including the Maryland Republican Party, for which she received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2007.
A memorial gathering will be held at Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc.; 1630 Edmondson Avenue; Catonsville, MD 21228 on August 26, 2014 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on August 27, 2014 at St. Agnes Parish at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a charitable donation to the Metavivor organization.
