John William Borchers, Jr. was born in Baltimore on Nov. 30th, 1930 to his parents, John William Borchers, Sr. and Marguerite Doederlien Jennings. He was married 67 years to his surviving wife, Fannie Mae Borchers. Predeceased by his son, John Robert (Bob) Borchers. Survived by his daughter, Grace Borchers Martin and her husband Christopher P. Martin; granddaughter, Caroline Martin Brockman and her husband Paul T. Brockman; and his grandson, Christopher Daniel Martin. Predeceased by his brother, Carl F. Borchers.
John's grandparents, Herman and Matilda Borchers emigrated here from Germany before the turn of the century and in 1915 opened Borchers Meat Market, well renowned by many Baltimore restaurants and people until it's closing in the mid 1960's. Beloved godparents, Joseph and Emma Herbert (Uk and Ugga), fulfilled many roles in John's younger life and were an active presence in his family.
John was 7 years old when he enrolled as a year round student at McDonogh Military School along with his brother, Carl who was 5 years old. He remained there until graduating at age 18, then enlisted into the Marines. He and his wife Fannie lived in Woodlawn, MD for 63 years. John was able to continue living there will this care of several nursing aids up until mid-October 2019. He sold life insurance for nearly 40 years for Monumental Life Insurance of Baltimore, MD. He stayed active with the Monumental Life Alumni and McDonogh Alumni for many years.
John Enjoyed helping and talking to people, gardening (The Veggie Man), and loved to fix things (Mr. Fix It). He also was a great fisherman and enjoyed Baltimore football and baseball. He was an instrumental part in the building of his daughter and son-in-law's log home in 1985-86. Most of all, he loved his wife Fannie and his two grandchildren dearly, There are few people that you will encounter in life who had the drive he had.
A memorial service will be celebrated 3PM, Sunday, December 8th at Grace Bible Baptist Church, 1518 North Rolling Road, Catonsville, MD 21228. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Grace Bible Baptist Church Missions, 1518 North Rolling Road, Catonsville, MD 21228.
